Installation¶

1. Allow scripts to write files¶

Textevo saves its settings and presets on your computer, After Effects has to allow it:

After Effects 2020 and later: Edit > Preferences > Scripting & Expressions
Older versions: Edit > Preferences > General

and check Allow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network.

On macOS, the Preferences are in the After Effects menu.

2. Install the panel¶

The easiest way is the aescripts + aeplugins manager: it installs Textevo for you.

To install by hand, in After Effects: File > Scripts > Install ScriptUI Panel... and select textevo.jsxbin. Do it again with textevo presets.jsxbin (a separate download) to get the presets manager as a dockable panel too (optional).

Or copy textevo.jsxbin and textevo presets.jsxbin directly into the ScriptUI Panels folder of After Effects, not in a subfolder:

3. Restart After Effects¶

Open the panel from the Window menu > textevo.jsxbin, and dock it where you like: the panel adapts to a vertical or horizontal layout.

With textevo presets.jsxbin installed, Window > textevo presets.jsxbin opens the presets manager as a panel you can dock too.

First launch¶

Textevo asks for a folder where it saves its settings and presets. If you cancel, your Documents folder is used. You can change it later in the settings.

Updating from an older version¶

Install textevo.jsxbin as above, and remove the older Textevo files from the ScriptUI Panels folder (textevo2.jsx, Textevo.jsx, textEvo241118.jsx..., and on macOS a file named Textevo_2026.0.0\Textevo.jsx), or you will have two Textevo panels in the Window menu.
Your settings are kept.
Your presets are kept too. The first time you open the presets window, Textevo offers to update the presets saved with an older version: see Presets saved with an older version.
The Textevo already in your projects keep working.
